“Education is light to these children”

- Zuma Mtui, Director of CHETI NGO

Cheti Schools

Cheti Schools in Arusha, Tanzania were founded by Zuma Mtui in 1998. For the past 21 years, Cheti Schools have been providing an education to children from from some of the poorest families and areas in Arusha.

Cheti Schools are made up of seven separate primary, nursery schools and one secondary school.

At Cheti 1 to Cheti 4 the students are aged between four and eight. They are taught a comprehensive curriculum in Swahili and English that is more extensive than that offered at government schools.

All together, the Cheti Schools provide an education to over 1000 students. The students at the primary schools are given the opportunity to sit the national Tanzanian exams which are in English.  They need to complete these in order to seek higher levels of education, if they are fortunate enough to access it.

At the very least, Cheti School, Zuma and all of the teachers provide these children with an education, one daily meal of porridge and an environment in which their happiness, passions, love for learning and dreams are able to thrive!

Our current projects at Cheti Schools involve:

  • The sponsorship of children at Cheti Schools

  • The support and sponsorship of the boy’s hostel (the orphanage at Cheti 5 dedicated to the boys)

  • Providing stationary supplies

  • Assisting with teaching in the classrooms

Our future projects at Cheti Schools will involve:

  • Starting sustainability projects

  • Introducing music lessons and musical instruments

  • Creating libraries in the classrooms at Cheti 5

  • Focus on the health and wellbeing of the teachers, by providing sanitary and hygiene products in the teacher’s office
